IFC (Independent Film Channel) is so great!
Shortly after moving into our condo, I discovered a sweet new channel I’d never heard of before: IFC – The Independent Film Channel.
Using a cool feature of Media Center 2005 that lets you get a list of all upcoming movies (along with their details) I noticed that there were a bunch more movies on than I was used to seeing in Charlotte. And good movies too… the ones I couldn’t ever get to in the theatre when I lived in Charlotte since they’d only be in town for a week or two (if at all) over at the Manor.
Quick digression – the Eastern Federal Manor theatre in Charlotte is the best movie theatre in Charlotte. We love that theatre. It showed “Iris” when nobody else had it locally. I love the art-house and/or independent theatres; we go to the Landmark theatres here in Seattle all the time.
Anyway, back to my point — the IFC channel is so cool. They show independent and limited run films in their unedited entirety, no commercials, no interruptions.
Here’s the “about” info on IFC from their website:
“Launched in September 1994, The Independent Film Channel (IFC) is the first channel entirely dedicated to presenting independent film, unedited and commercially uninterrupted 24 hours a day. IFC’s library boasts a collection of uncompromising stories, character and style. Committed to work struck from the creative vision of cinema’s most compelling filmmakers, IFC also offers alternative films from today’s new and up-and-coming artists. IFC’s exclusive live coverage of special events including the Independent Spirit Awards and Cannes Film Festival, creative on-air festivals and one-of-a-kind original series and specials secures the company’s role as the leader in independent film. IFC Television is one of the fastest growing digital cable networks available nationwide.”

[...] While in NYC yesterday, I went to the IFC Center to see This Film is Not Yet Rated. Now, I just like the idea of an IFC-associated theatre (see my earlier post about IFC). It’s probably a good thing I don’t live in New York or I’d have to spend a lot of time and money going to all the cool films they show at this, and similar theatres in the city. [...]

[...] In other news, AMC Theatres are the bomb. Although they are not Landmark or IFC(see this previous blog post and this one too) and are therefore not perfect in every way, they are definitely a close runner-up. There were two key things last night that made this clear to me: [...]
