Hawk Run and camping
Last weekend we did a couple of cool things:
- We got out to Redmond on Saturday morning for the 5th Annual Redmond Elementary Hawk Walk and Run.
This was fun because it was a bit spur of the moment; we sort-of planned to do it after we saw the flyer the previous weekend at Super Jock and Jill’s at Green Lake. We got there, stretched to warm up, and then ran the 5k. I told Jodi to run ahead rather than waiting for slow, slow me. So she did, and she had a great run!
But it was also super-cool for me because it was the first 5k I’ve ever run end-to-end. Typically when I do 5k, I do a run-walk-run cycle to keep from my side hurting, etc. But the weather was just perfect (low 50s, overcast, light breeze) this Saturday… and I had been feeling a bit sick/achy before (my thought — maybe my pain threshold was already a bit raised). So I was able to run straight through and got my best 5k time to date! I decided after the first mile that if I could make it that far without walking, I would try to make it to two… and then to three. Woo!

- Then we went camping at Manchester State Park
We decided to try out our new camping equipment prior to our big camping trip in a couple of weeks. So we grabbed the ferry over to Bremerton (turns out there’s actually a much quicker, less $$ ferry directly to Manchester… whoops) and planted the tent at Manchester State Park.
We discovered a couple things we need to get before our big camping trip, so it was a great success. See the photos at Doddsnet.

Wow, you guys have a teeny-weeny tent! Adam and I got a new tent last summer and it’s huge. He can pretty much stand up in it and he’s a tall guy… We can fit a queen-size air mattress in it with room around the edges too. Guess we’re spoiled. Hopefully we can get some camping in this season too.
Anyway, see you next week!

[...] And finally, Jodi and I “spent” our “Wine Lovers Gift Package” out in Redmond this weekend (which we won at the Redmond Elementary Hawk Walk/Run last spring, and totally didn’t include in that blog post for some reason… whoops). Anyway, we had a great time being “tourists” out in Redmond. Had a nice steak dinner at Beck’s, stayed at the Redmond Inn, had some Family Pancake House breakfast next door, and then meandered over to Woodinville for some proper wine tasting. Good times (photos also on this page)! [...]

[...] Like the last 5k I ran (wow, has it really been since April?!), I was able to go straight through the whole race without walking. This one was actually even “easier” than the Hawk Run, and I attribute my increased running stamina very directly to the long bike rides I’ve been doing over the last month or two. I guess biking for 2-3 straight hours helps make it a bit easier to run for 30 minutes! Go figure. [...]
